Salmon River, Oak Orchard, Oswego River, Oneida Lake, Niagara River, Fishing Report 4/17/08
The Eastern Lake shoreline is on fire one day and barren of fish the next. Typical east wind, west wind, dirty water, clear water scenario. You have to be in the right place at the right time. Boaters are finding brown trout trolling along the shore in 6-8 ft. of water, primarily at the mouths of the tributaries. Stickbaits and small spoons in black and silver are working the best. Troll slow and concentrate your efforts in and around the warmest colored water. The Oswego Harbor is producing some nice catches of brown trout as well.
The Bull head fishing is just getting underway and conditions will really improve over the next few weeks as the water warms and fish move in. Top spots include North and South Sandy Pond, The Salmon River Estuary, The Grindstone Marsh and the Little Salmon River.
The salmon river flow is very high, but the fishing has been nothing short of incredible.
They bumped it to 3,500 today, after dropping it to 1,200 on Tuesday. Makes no sense to me at all, but dropback steelhead are being caught from top to bottom. The last few days have been simply incredible. Now we will struggle and then it will get good again.
Worms, plugs and egg sacs are working best. We have been using pink and white eggs along with copper and pink hot shots and chartreuse rapala's.
Here a just a few from the last couple of days.

Steve and Kathy are all smiles with the action they found on the salmon river.

Lucky Eric always seems to hit it just right. This year he had the nicest weather of the spring thus far as well!!
