Salmon River, Oak Orchard, Oswego River, Oneida Lake, Niagara River, Fishing Report 10/18/08

The salmon season has reached it's peak but area rivers and streams still have plenty of fish.

The crowds are still her but there is room to move around.

On the salmon river, fish are scattered top to bottom. The Sportsman Pool, Ellis Cove and Schoolhouse Pool area all fished well this week. The Upper and Lower Fly Fishing areas have been consistently producing action but are also getting heavy pressure. The water islow butis very fishable. We could still use a lot of rain to get the creeks flowing. Plenty of steelhead and browns are showing up and I predict this will be a very good season for trout.

I had a great week with some super clients, nice weather and pretty darn good fishing.

The finishing touch See you next year guys.

On the Oswego River, there is finally some flow with water running at about 5,000 cfs. This will bring in some more salmon as well as trout.

On Oneida Lake. The water temperature is now 56 degrees and the gizzard shad are moving in along the shore. The bait seemed to be going where the wind had been blowing. Anglers are finding walleyes along the shore fishing with waders or in boats. Stickbaits and the nitro minnow in blue/silver and black/silver are working well. Yellow perch can be found in 30-40 feet of water using fathead minnows fished along the bottom.
