Lake Ontario, Salmon River, Oak Orchard, Oswego River, Oneida Lake, Niagara River, Fishing Report 8/17/08

Tuesday morning and I sent my guys for breakfast hoping the Gail winds will lie down and we can fish. Somehow we got all our trips in over the last few days, but this am we were greeted with short tight 6 foot seas and bigger rollers with a northeast chop on top of it all. Will the wind ever stop?

Despite the big winds my crews have been hanging tough and have been rewarded with some nice catches of big bright Chinooks.

All of our fish our coming on e-chips, Spin Dr’s and Inticer flashers in green, white, mountain dew  and chrome with Atomik flies in the Big Fin glow, Hammer, Hypnotist, green glow and the #23 fly. I know that many others are working too but that has been our pattern. We also hit a few on Luhr Jensen J-Plugs up in the warmer water.

September is right around the corner and I haerd rumors of a few salmon making their way up the river each day. It won’t be long, so now is a good time to prepare all your river tackle so you are ready to go when the fish show up.

The walleye action has been good on Oneida Lake. Troll the deeper water pulling lead core in five or six colors. Jr. thundersticks and rapala’s are working well. Fish anywhere from Buoy 121 to Buoy 109 but fish the north side of the buoys. Bass are active along the rock piles using crayfish.
