Lake Ontario, Salmon and Oswego River Fishing Report 5/30/07
Well, I think we got it. Nothing like a new software program to make a dumb fishing guide look even dumber.
Anway, I think the new site format will be a huge improvement and we will have the capability of bringing our readers a lot more things. Stay Tuned.
So, the fishing west of Oswego remains red hot. Browns in shallow for the first few hours and then slip out into 250 to 350 FOW water and look for steelhead and cohos from the surface, down to about 40 feet. Anything orange seems to work. The Dreamweaver Super slim in the Orange Gangster and Coyote Blue Dolphin have been good for us. I am sure the big kings will be slipping this way very soon.
I have been down on Oneida lake chasing walleye as well and each trip gets better. Things are setting up real nice and I think June will be on fire. We are also seeing some nicer 2 to 4 pound fish as well. Throw in some giant perch, a bunch of white bass, some smallmouth and a few sheepshead and you have an action packed trip!!
I keep getting the question: Are there any steelhead left in the salmon river? and the answer is yes. Hard to believe, but they are still avalable. Fish the deepest fastest, bubbly water you can find and you will be rewarded with a few hard fighting dropbacks. Or, head up river and try for the elusive Atlantic salmon or summer run steelhead, there seems to be a decent presence of these fish in Altmar.
On the Oswego River there are plenty of rock bass sheepshead, walleye and perch just waiting to be caught. Fish worms, jigs and rapalas from the west side work the river from top to bottom and you will find some fish.
