Lake Ontario, Oneida Lake Fishing Report 6/07/07
I said in my last report that the brown trout fishing along the eastern shoreline of Lake Ontario was on fire.Well today was unreal.
I was part of a four boat trip with Tom from Cold Steel. Between the four boats we collectively landed over 130 trout. Yes 130 that is 32.5 per boat!! Too many fish.
I couldn't get away from them. Same deal. We are fishing 20 to 40 FOW and trolling black & silver smithwicks off of planerboards and adding about 1/4 ounce of weight on the line to get the bait down a few more feet. Dreamweaver and Raider spoons in the alewife pattern, 6 to 40 down on the riggers and off of leadcore have been real good once the sun comes up. The afternoon bite has been challenging as the fish feed hard all morning and then just shut down.
Offshore fishing even picked up as one boat did 4 steelhead a coho and a king.
I am fishing Oneida Lake just about everyday and we continue to pound on the walleye. I have been concentrating my efforts on the eastern end between the canal and Messengers reef, as well as the northeast corner. Areas around buoys 109 to 113 are holding fish. The deep water jigging program has set up nicely and good catches of 18 to 23 inch fish have been the norm on all of our recent outings. Sonars in perch, silver and gold are working throughout the day. There is no need to torture yourself fishing at night. Early morning or late afternoons are producing plenty of fish.
I am back on Oneida tomorrow and will have a fresh report for the weekend.
Se you out there, Troy
