“Fishing for A Great Cause”

PRESS RELEASE

“Fishing for A Great Cause”:

Moravia, NY – George Fiorille is the Promotional Manager for the Bass Pro Shops store in Auburn, New York. Fiorille is a very avid angler who fishes for multi-species with an expertise with bass around New York State and the Northeast. George runs a Nitro/Mercury rig for the store and this year the boat will have a special wrap on it that will promote a great cause.  April is national Donate Life month. Fiorille strongly feels that as bass fishermen and women, the sport of bass fishing is much more than just a hobby for many of us…it’s actually a way of life. And as bass anglers, we can give the greatest gift of all, the gift of life by registering to become an organ donor. But, we must do much more than just register, we must tell our relatives and friends of our wishes, because if the occasion does arise, our request will become full filled to donate.  The subject of organ donation is a very dear topic to George and his only daughter Maria. “Thanks to two thoughtful people who registered to become organ donors, my late wife Sharon was able to enjoy an additional eight years of life,” remarked Fiorille “Had she not received these gifts of life, she would have passed away after enduring a long illness.” (Sharon passed away in January of 2007 after complications from her second liver transplant in 2006) Even though Sharon is not around anymore, George and his daughter Maria would like to keep spreading her love and goodness to others by using their energy to bring awareness to others and help promote awareness of organ donation. Besides running the wrapped Nitro boat with the DonateLife.com logo and web site address allover the Northeast this year, Maria has a very special organ donation awareness program that is being promoted nationally by transplant awareness groups. She is making custom made hospital blankets for organ transplant patients. She first made a couple of the blankets while her mother was in the hospital for her second transplant. Some of the patients walking by her mother’s room each day saw the blankets and would go to the nurses’ station and request one only to be disappointed to find out that they could not receive one.  Maria was informed by one of the nurses of this and was told that several of them do not have any families at all. Maria came up with the idea to sew as many of them as she could and disperse them to the transplant patients…as kind of a security blanket for them to hang on and enjoy life.  Fiorille hopes to use the boat as well next year to compete in the B.A.S.S. Opens. Anyone who would like to donate materials, a homemade single size blanket or funds to buy blanket materials, can send to Blankets From Home Project, Sharon Fiorille Organ Donation Awareness Fund, P.O. Box 444, 1541 State Route 38, Moravia, NY 13118 or email Maria at mailto:mafiorille@gmail.com.
