Anglers take Refuge in Frabill’s newest portable ice shelter

Anglers take Refuge in Frabill’s newest portable ice shelter
Innovations run amok in roomy, packable, and economic cabin-style fish house

Jackson, Wis. – No one likes a cramped neck. Especially when they’re ice fishing. It’s cold enough outside; all the more reason to assure that the atmosphere inside the shelter is nice and comfy. Within Frabill’s new Refuge quick-set portable, a 72-inch high profile ceiling assures that the periodic ‘stand up and stretch’ is well worth the effort.

“We put a lot of extras into the Refuge,” says Frabill Operations Manager, Ryan Kleckner. “For one, we added a pre-assembled Quick-Set frame. Just  flip it up, and go fishing— that’s it.”

Once inside, up to three anglers will enjoy the accommodations—integrated, fully carpeted  floor, four clear-view removable windows, and lots of space. Did we mention the tall, roomy ceiling?

They’ll also appreciate keeping warm. The thrifty Refuge utilizes a 300 Denier tent material with extra polyurethane coatings to keep light and water out, while heat stays put. When it’s time to check a tip-up or drill more holes, one of two heavy-duty zippered doors (fore and aft) promises to make the exit a smooth one.

"The Refuge ice shelter delivers Frabill’s trademark quality in a package that’s a perfect fit for smaller SUVs and trucks," offers Northern Minnesota fishing guide and Frabill pro, Paul Nelson. “Refuge is so easy to assemble and pack up that it’s sort of deceiving. I mean, cabin-style portables like this aren’t supposed to be this mobile, but this one sure is.”

But mobile is the word. Simply fold down the robust ¾-inch galvanized steel frames, one over the other. Close the base, and lock it up like a suitcase. If you’re used to handling carry-on luggage, Refuge’s featherlight 44-pound size will make you feel like Superman.

"We work pretty closely with our pro-staff,” continues Frabill’s Kleckner. “It’s the best way to ensure that products will hold up in the field, and work the way they’re supposed to work. That’s been Frabill’s modus operandi for our entire seventy plus year history.”

“A lot of topnotch anglers have begun to recognize that Frabill is building the best portable shelters on the ice,” reports Nelson. “Their bold new look pretty much reflects the quality and innovation within. And Refuge makes a further point about Frabill value. It’s a pretty solid package for an awfully attractive price.
