Since 2001 Mountain Ash Elk Ranch, located five miles outside of Sandy Creek on Weaver Road, has provided their customers and local businesses with quality inspected elk meat. As a convenience to them and future customers, they have recently expanded to include a country store.
The store will sell a variety of products including apparel, specialty gift items, and consignment products from local craftsman; along with seasonal products such as maple syrup, sweet corn and ice cream. The store will be opening in the spring of 2009 with seasonal hours, but watch for special weekend events coming this summer.
Along with selling a variety of cuts of elk meat, which is high in protein and low in cholesterol, Mountain Ash also sells elk antler velvet used in nutritional health supplements. The antler contains compounds of glucosamine and chondroitin sulfate which many doctors and veterinarians prescribe to their patients for arthritis and hip dysplasia.
